Inmate Money

Each prison has a Commissary which was started to provide prisoners a bank account for inmate funds and for purchasing things not issued to inmates by the prison.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people can deposit money to these accounts with Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends are able to send prisoners funds through postal mail and have to send funds to the following address and do so in accordance with the directions shows below:

The funds have to be in a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day holding period, and in this time the inmate will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return any funds that don’t have correct inmate info but only if the envelope it was sent it has a valid return address. Personal checks and cash can’t be deposited to the prisoner’s account so do not send any cash or checks.
