Inmate Money

Each state correctional institution has a Commissary which was started to provide prisoners a bank-like account for inmate monies and for purchasing things not issued by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people can deposit funds to inmate’s Commissary accounts using Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends are able to send prisoners funds by way of postal mail and will have to send the moneyh to this address and do so in accordance with the rules listed below:

The funds must be in the form of a money order that is made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day hold period, and in this time the prisoner will not have access to the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return any funds that do not have correct prisoner information but only if the envelope it was sent it has an adequate return address. Checks and cash will not be accepted so do not send any cash or checks.
