Inmate Money

Each state prison has a Commissary that was started to provide an account for inmate money and for buying things not issued by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people can deposit money into these accounts by sending it by Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send prisoners funds in the postal service and have to send money to the address below and follow the directions listed below:

The funds must be in a money order that is made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day holding period, and in this time the inmate will not get the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender any funds that don’t have valid prisoner information provided the envelope has a return address. Personal checks and cash can’t be accepted for deposit so don’t send any cash or checks.

Inmate Programs

The Key Visions Program is the first component of Delaware’ substance abuse treatment regimen for offenders with a history of substance abuse. Key Visions is a prison based therapeutic community with a total treatment environment that is discipline based, intense and isolated from the rest of the prison population. The Key Visions Program is open to sentenced offenders who are within 12 to 36 months of their short term release date or within 15 months of a parole date. The projected length of stay in the program is 12 to 18 months and is based on performance. This means that the length of time an offender spends in the program depends upon their level of participation and how hard they work while in the program. The primary goal of Key Visions is to change negative patterns of behavior, thinking and feelings that predispose one toward drug abuse and crime. The program provides a disciplined, regimented daily routine for offenders. Offenders earn advancement in the program’s phase system through demonstrative responsible behavior and proper living.

  1. Jim says:

Does the prison place people who are waiting to be sentenced in with people who have already been sentenced?

  2. Me says:

I have had the worst time ever in my life, dealing with the staff /facility of Gander Hill. Bull that is on the internet is totally incorrect regarding mail, visits and more.
I was suspended for WHAT /WHO – I was never told, but basically, they’re (Gander staff) is on some petty-behind immigrant ‘cracker’ stuff.
More mail has been returned – including literature (ordered from Amazon), greeting card (born-day card) with money order enclosed was lost & cost me money to cancel.
I have arrived – after long travels, only to find out there was no visitation allowed, I have made appointments and been denied visitation on at least 2-3 occasions.
Once I called in to speak with the deputy or warden and a plain-ole guard was on the phone (like he was my attorney) telling me what he was going to read to me – a correspondence from the prison. Who the hell authorized him to be all-up-in-my business? ? ? ? ? He was actually eaves-dropping on the deputies call(s), or else he was reading my personal information without my expressed and/or written consent.
This place is deplorable to say the least. Unethical in all shapes and just down right unprofessional in its operations.
