Inmate Money

Each state prison has a Commissary which serves to provide a bank-like account for inmate money and for purchasing things not issued to inmates by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone can add money to inmate’s accounts by sending it by Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send inmates money through the mail and will have to send funds to the following address and follow the directions shows below:

The funds have to be in the form of a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day holding period, and during this hold period the prisoner will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that do not have appropriate inmate information provided the envelope has a return address. Cash and personal checks will not be accepted for deposit so don’t send checks or cash.

This is by far one of the worst facilities in Florida! I have visited twice and could not believe the treatment I received! The way these employees spoke to me was as if I was an inmate!!! One of the employees went as far as to tell me that this was not my first rodeo!! Well excuse me uneducated white bitter lady but this was my first rodeo! There is a correctional officer who doesn’t like my son and continues to make up things to put my son in confinement!! He was confined for 45 days got out and was put back in now for 60 days!! I get letters from him but for some misterious reason he gets no mail!!! The inmates in confinement are being starved and mistreated! Isn’t it enough the are confined??? The employees are extremely rude and of very little help! I plan to have something done about this! There is no way that these people will continue to treat these inmates in such an Inhumane manner!

    • Shannon says:

I know someone who is incarcerated here. I have not been in touch with him since he was arrested and I don’t plan on contacting him any time soon. I’m not hear to talk about my personal story but I really would like to know what this prison is like. Just some examples… How violent are the imates towards each other? How bad are the gangs? Do they stick with people of their own race? Do the inmates have any honest way of making cash for commissary? How nasty are the guards? What is a general day like?! Anything anyone could tell me would be more than I know now. I don’t live any where near Okeechobee so I never even heard of this place, not even a rumor, until the person I know was suddenly transferred here. If there is anyone out there willing to tell me anything about this place I would really appreciate it! If even one person out there could please just take a min or 2 to give me a few answers it would truly make my week… Maybe even my month!
