Inmate Money

Each prison has a Commissary that was started to provide prisoners a bank-like account for inmate funds and for buying items not issued by the Bureau of Prisons.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people can deposit funds to prisoner’s accounts using Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send prisoners money in the mail and have to send money to the address below and do so in accordance with the rules given below:

The funds have to be in the form of a money order that is made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day hold period, and during this period the prisoner will not have access to the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return any funds that do not have appropriate inmate info provided the envelope you sent it in has a valid return address. Cash and personal checks cannot be deposited to the prisoner’s account so don’t send any cash or checks.

  1. Dawn M. P. says:

It’s only been 3 months since my sons death but I still relive the nightmare SFRC put me and my family through. The pleading every day just to stand by his bedside while in a coma in ICU. Being denied visitation even when family had chosen to take him off the ventilator. His brother being threatened with arrest.Me his mother begging to be with him while he took his last breath.l brought him into this world, I wanted to hold his hand on his journey out .When I asked why how can you do this the answer was”Because I Can”. There was a change of shifts at the prison when we spoke to someone else that had a heart that let me, his father, brother and sister be with him when he took his last breath in this world.Nobody should have to go through what we did when a family member passes. This experience will haunt me for the rest of my life for not a day goes by that I see his face and relive it in my mind. May you rest in peace my son.
