Each state correctional institution has a Commissary which serves to provide an account for inmate monies and for buying items not issued by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources may send funds to inmate’s accounts with Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends are able to send prisoners money in postal mail and have to send money to this address and follow the rules written below:

The deposit have to be in a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day holding period, during which the inmate will not have access to the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will send back money orders that don’t have appropriate prisoner information provided the envelope has a return address. Personal checks and cash won’t be deposited to the prisoner’s account so don’t send checks or cash.

I could not get my computer to display information about inmate mail and photos. I need to know the rules on what inmates can receive from family and loved ones. I would greatly appreciate it if I could get the guiidlines on what kind of photos and how many each inmate is allowed to receive.

    Thank you,

  2. DamonB'sWife says:

My husband, unfortunately, has been sentenced to Winfield, recently. Visiting him in county, with the glass and the phone between us, eye contact being our only form of intimacy, was the worst for me, I couldn’t hug my husband! I had to walk away from him, I could see my tough guy husband fighting back tears as he watched me openly crying as I forced my legs to walk away from the only person I have in the world.

We were fully expecting 18mths probation the day of his sentencing. I didn’t even go to court that day, I asked him what he wanted for dinner when he got home. He took the deal that was offered, plead guilty to distribution, you get treatment, and probation. He plead guilty. His lawyer, Brenda Jordan, of manhatten, ks, lied to us. The judge gave him 42 mths in prison over selling $25 worth of meth to our roommates new boyfriend, who turned out to be detective Mike Parr. Our roommate, turned ci, set him up to get out of her own legal issues.

This was Damon’s first drug offense. He said no to those two all day! She begged, begged, begged. He finally went to someone he knew, got a quarter gram, brought to our house, threw it on some scales, and him and I went to our room and went to bed. A month later he was pulled over and arrested. Here we are now! I lost my job, which came with a rent free apt, because I had an emotional breakdown and couldn’t focus on my job. I’m living in a homeless shelter, looking for work that will pay me enough to pay for our phone calls, his commessary, a fan, work clothes, boots, someone to take me to see him, plus rent, utilities, and food. He has an appeal coming up, and I need him home so damn bad that I also need to find a great attorney. How? How can I do any of it on an $8 an hour job? He is my only family,my only friend, he was my life. I woke up one day and the person I count on and love more than anything in the world, was taken out of my life. I felt like I woke up and no longer had legs and arms, helpless, and alone, and not able to function any more. After County. Was El darado. 6 or 7 weeks there. That was the worst time. I was so worried. And to make our situation worse, they were not approving me on his list of phone numbers he could call. I was finishing probation, myself. We were not allowed any contact. No letters, no calls. I have never felt that terrified and alone. I hade a breakdown. I should have been hospitalized. But with him gone, there was no one who cared enough to recognize I was in very bad shape. Only he loved me. After that hell, he finally went to winfield. I took my last two pay checks, left everything but my clothes, and moved to winfield. I got to hug him! Kiss his lips, and be held for two hours while I buried my face in his chest and sobbed uncontrollably the whole time. I smelled him, touched his face, ran my fingers in his soft hair, and felt his strong arms hold me tight. It didn’t work out for me in winfield. Couldn’t find a job, had no vehicle, ran out of money to pay for a crummy motel, and wound up with kidney stones and a 103 fever! I lost 3 days of job hunting while my motel bill ate up the last of my money. Damon was always worried. We had to say good bye to those twice a week visits that were the only 4 hrs a week I cared about, say goodbye to eachother. So I could come back home and take advantage of our shelter. Winfield didn’t have any programs to help me. I want to say…the staff in the visiting room were pretty nice and seemed to understand how important touching was to us wives. No one was inappropriate, just very tightly entwined…hands above the table, though! I am grateful to have had that time. I’m getting stronger, but still feel so alone and not sure how to get him out. This is new to me, and I haven’t found any help for the families. We are in our own kind of prison on the outside. If anyone can help direct me, please email me…thank you, gloria b….
