Inmate Money

Each state correctional institution has a Commissary that serves to provide inmates an account for prisoner funds and for purchasing things not issued regularly by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone may send funds into these accounts with the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends are able to send inmates money in the postal service and must send money to the following address and do so in accordance with the steps shows below:

The deposit must be a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day holding period, in which the prisoner will not get the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that don’t have appropriate inmate information provided the envelope has a return address. Checks and cash cannot be deposited to the inmate’s account so do not send any checks or cash.

I have witnessed unfair treatment at this facility. The officers there play favorites to certain inmates and visitors. They make a game out of picking on some people, barring visitors, calling them down purposely when they see them on the phone, scheduling appointments then cancelling them because they weren’t real to begin with. This place needs to be looked in to. Why can one guy be barred for kissing his wife a few times yet someone was getting a hand job in the visitor room. Dress code for visitors is whatever the officers feel is appropriate at the time. One woman was denied entry for her short sleeve shirt yet is allowed according to the visiting policy. They will constantly disrupt visits if they feel the need to regardless if there’s a child there. Writing any type of complaint to them is a joke because the Super just throws it away. The IPS department blackmails inmates into ratting others out also. It’s all crooked. No proper procedures are ever followed for anything. Sure it’s easy for some and could be considered a country club compared to the max but if the guards want to pick on you, you might as well be in hell. At some point the entire place should be investigated. Maybe even liquidated of it’s staff with a total redo of people who actually want to do their jobs and actually help coach these women into making the right choices.
