How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources can add funds to inmate’s Commissary accounts using Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send prisoners funds through the postal service and will have to send funds to the following address and do so in accordance with the rules provided below:

The money must be in the form of a money order that is made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day holding period, and during this period the inmate will not get the depsoit. The Bureau of Prisons will return money orders that do not have appropriate prisoner information but only if the envelope it was sent it has a return address. Personal checks and cash can’t be deposited to the prisoner’s account so don’t send any checks or cash.

Victim Notification

The Department of Justice Victim Notification System (VNS) is a system that provides victims with information pertaining to their case and/or any defendants in the case. You will receive a Victim Identification Number (VIN) and a Personal Identification Number (PIN) that will allow you to access VNS via the internet or by phone. Here, you will find information about future court hearings, historical court events, and detailed information about the defendant. This will include criminal charges filed, the outcome of charges, sentence imposed, custody location, projected release date and any other release information. The VNS website is updated daily. You will also receive any ongoing information by mail or email.

    Dear Sir’s, I am looking for a uncle that was there in June 14, 1900, he was the youngest inmate at that date. He was 18 years old! His name was Elmer Apple, he was born Nov 1881 in the town of Rossie New York or Black Lake New York, all in St.Lawrence Co, of New York State. My family have been looking for him, we do not know if he died there, and or where he went after being released, all is unknown. Please help my family find our uncle, it is a true Mystery, we can’t find any records on his life at all after the date of June 14th, 1900 and that is a census listing for Dannemora Prison list of men that were there the same time my uncle was there. We don’t even know what he did to get put in prison. Any help, to help us find our Uncle Elmer would be much loved. His father was George Jerry Apple of Black Lake New York, his mother was Alace Mae ” Meniqault ” Mandigo of Macomb New York, both of St.Lawrence Co. New York State. Please help and thank you for all your time and help, and for tying to keep our families that live outside from those people that live there at Dannemora, Thank you, Deboraha M. F
